When you get a chance to take a Ride with Clyde, you take it!

Who’s Clyde, you ask? Clyde is a 1974 Mercury Marquis popularized in “When Guiding Goes Gangster” by Beattie Outdoor Productions, a short fly fishing video which won the Drake Magazine 5th Annual Fly Fishing Video Award for Best Humor in 2010.
Weighing in at over 4,500 pounds of solid steel, twenty two and half feet long and powered by a massive 460 V8, Clyde is a serious beast of a fishing rig fit for a gangsta! Clyde’s series of fly fishing road trips and angling adventures have been chronicled in the Drake Magazine’s column / blog “Ride with Clyde”.
“There’s a fine line in winter steelheading between bliss and torment. If there was no hope for the first, there’d be little incentive to endure the latter. Riding in Clyde is a bit like that. In summer, he’s warm and smooth and stylish—blissful, even. But in February, with the wind whistling through all the gaps in his weatherstripping, the dull roar allows little room for your own thoughts. It’ll make you tougher, at least.”

While our Ride with Clyde involved a lot more fishing than catching, it was a fun adventure! Lucas and I also had a series of other angling adventures this winter and spring chasing wild steelhead on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. Check out the photos below!
